Thousands flee as Hawaii volcano erupts
The Kilauea volcano in the state of Hawaii, USA erupted on Thursday. Residents of the impacted area were evacuated. The eruption was preceded by several recent minor earthquakes and a 5.0 magnitude earthquake culminated in rockfalls and volcanic eruption. Warnings have been issued of lava inundation and additional earthquakes. Areas downwind are prone to ash dusting, elevated sulfur dioxide levels and methane blasts.
