Gina Haspel became the first woman to head CIA
Gina Haspel became the first woman to head CIA. On Thursday, the 61-year-old veteran of the agency’s clandestine services was approved by the Senate, and is expected to be quickly sworn in at the White House. Until recently, almost nothing was known about Haspel, even after she became deputy CIA director last year. Her role in overseeing the CIA’s secret prison in Thailand after 9/11 had become a matter of controversy.
